Powerhouse Zhejiang Ties Sichuan, Chengdu down Nanjing in China League One
Powerhouse Zhejiang Professional tied Sichuan Jiuniu 0-0 while Chengdu Rongcheng bagged a 2-0 victory over Nanjing City in this week's second round of the 2021 China League One.
As one of the frontrunners in the second tier league, Zhejiang were unexpectedly drawn 0-0 on Thursday by Sichuan, who succeeded in limiting their opponents' attacks but also failed in producing threatening ones of their own.
After the first two rounds, Sichuan grabbed one point but had no goals.
Chengdu, who is in China League One for the second year but is considered a strong team, won 2-0 over the newcomers Nanjing on Friday, grabbing their second victory in a row.
Scoring in the first half through Liu Ruofan and Wu Guichao, Chengdu played a more defensive game in the second half to defend their two-goal lead.
Another powerhouse Meizhou Hakka also won their second straight game as they beat Shaanxi Chang'an Athletic 1-0 on Friday. Lu Lin's score by the end of the game helped Meizhou to gain three precious points.
Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard beat Zibo Cuju 3-2 on Thursday. In other games played on Friday, Jiangxi Beidamen edged Beijing BSU 1-0, and Wuhan Three Towns beat Heilongjiang Ice City 4-0. Guizhou beat Suzhou Dongwu 1-0, Liaoning Shenyang Urban beat Beijing Institute of Technology 2-1, and Nantong Zhiyun beat Kunshan 1-0 on Saturday.
The third round of China League one will kick off next Tuesday.
